If you watched yesterday’s new video you will know that our trip home is only one week away now and I could not be more excited! We haven’t been home to Kerry since Christmas which is the longest we’ve both been away since we moved. The 8 months have flown by but it feels like forever since we’ve seen most of our family so I’m so happy the trip has finally come around. As you can imagine, our mom is very excited too haha! We will be home for a month in total as we have a few other trips planned throughout the time home. There are so many things I’m looking forward during this trip so today I thought I would dedicate the post to having a little chat about 5 of the reasons I’m most excited about going home..
1. The Food
Always the food! Anytime people ask Kaelin or I what we miss most about home our answer is 90% of the time, food haha! I don’t know what it is but even after almost 5 years here I still can’t get used of how processed the food in NYC is. I can’t wait for a whole month of fresh Irish food and of course Mom’s home cooked meals. If you’re an avid follower you already know I am dreaming about our go-to Indian takeaway too haha!
2. The People
New York can definitely get under peoples skin. I for one have 100% noticed how impatient I’ve gotten since I moved here haha! So it’s safe to say people here can be a little less personable. Now don’t get me wrong, New Yorkers are some of my favorite people in the world but nothing really compares to the Irish. It’s true when they say that they are some of the friendliest and warmest people in the world. I’m so ready to be around that energy for a while.
3. The Space
Kaelin and I always say that we we feel so weird when we go home to our house after being away for a long period of time. I guess its because we are so used of the small spaces we live in here. But, this time I couldn’t be more ready for a little breathing space for a few weeks. We love our apartments so much here but it will be very nice to live in a house again for a while. I never thought it would be such a novelty until I moved here haha!
4. The Peace & Quiet
If living in New York makes you appreciate one thing it’s peace & quiet. It really is the city that never sleeps and although I am so used to the sirens and hustle & bustle at this stage, I’ve been craving some calmness more than ever this Summer. As most of you know where we live in Ireland is very remote so I think it will be just what the doctor ordered. Time definitely goes slower in Ireland too so I’m looking forward to a slower pace of life for a while.
5. The Family Time
Everyone says that as you get older you realize that family really is the most important thing. Well I think I finally understand why. I’ve mentioned it before but I have a really big family and being away from them and missing out on certain things/events is definitely one of the hardest parts of living away from home. So I’m so excited to catch up with everyone while I’m home. My cousin also just had twin baby girls last week so that’s made it even more exciting this time around. No doubt there will be lots of celebrations to welcome them which I can’t wait for.
I hope you enjoyed this more chatty post. I’m counting down the days now and also can’t wait to share lots of content from home as I know you guys love seeing that side of things (& vogue haha!)
Chat soon,
x Erika
