I’ve been living here in New York for the past year & a half, but hadn’t quite managed to find my go-to hair salon just yet…. Until now! It’s a hard task, isn’t it? I don’t care what anyone says, trusting somebody with your hair is a BIG deal. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the most adventurous when it comes to hairstyles – I know what I like and I tend to stick with it – but saying that I’m really focused on always keeping my hair as healthy as possible. Although I don’t cut very much off each time I go to the salon, I ensure that I do cut it regularly -even if it’s just a trim. So last week, I popped into SASSOON SALON on 56th street to give my hair a refresh – which involved a wash, the most amazing in-salon Kerastase treatment and a fresh cut by their Creative Director, Elaine. It was just what my hair needed after a pretty chilly NYC winter.
A lot of you, especially those just visiting New York, have asked me in the past about hair salon recommendations and like everything, I don’t like recommending a place until I’ve actually tried it myself. But after my first visit to SASSOON Salon (my photographer Christina also goes there) I can definitely say that I was so so impressed. Their minimalistic white interiors were obviously a big hit with me and I couldn’t say enough good enough good things about the service & quality of the products. Oh and my (Scottish) stylist, Elaine, had me laughing through the whole appointment! For my shampoo & conditioner, they used a brand called Davines Oi and then for my treatment they used a Kerastase product which was divine! Seeing as I don’t color my hair, having a treatment done is my little treat and I swear by them every once in a while. As you guys know, I curl my hair A LOT, so this ensures it stays healthy.
Once we has the wash, cut & blow-dry finished, Elaine did some GHD curls for me. Something I’m promising myself I’m going to learn how to do! I just use a regular curling tongs on a daily basis, but I really like how the GHD curls last whenever I get them done. Probably the most frequent question I get on my snapchat (retroflame1) is, ‘how do I curl my hair?’, so the good news is that over the next few months, in collaboration with the amazing stylists at SASSOON, I’m actually going to be showing you some tutorials. At last, I know. Haha! And not just curling tutorials, I’m also going to get a bit more adventurous and try out some braid & pony styles. Which I’ll be doing step-by-step guides for here on the blog. So excited to share some more hair content.
I absolutely loved the end result and honestly, my hair still smelled amazing for three days afterwards! Getting my hair done is, undoubtedly, one of my very favourite treats.
Hope you enjoyed this post & I’m excited to share more hair care stories!
