I honestly try my very best to get back to everyone but sometimes, things just get too busy for me and my replies are delayed. So instead of keeping you waiting, I figured it would be a good idea to have all the most frequently asked questions in one section here on my blog. So I’ve created this FAQ section and answered as many questions as I could think of. These are just the initial ones but as more new ones come up, I’ll be sure to add them in too.
How did you get started?
Retro Flame started as a hobby while I was in university in Ireland. I always had an interest in fashion and wanted somewhere to document it. It started as an ‘escape’ from study and before I knew it, turned into so much more! I now run Retro Flame full-time here in New York and it’s been such an exciting journey so far. How do you make a living from blogging?
I make money two different ways – through sponsored posts and affiliates. I’m extremely lucky to get the opportunity to work with brands who believe that my influence matters. I always disclose sponsored content with the hashtags #ad or #sponsored and will always let you know if I’ve partnered with a brand on a blog post. As for affiliate programs, this means that if you purchase from certain links on my website and/or social channels, I may make a small commission on that purchase. I really need to emphasize that I only work with and promote brands and products that I truly love – that’s how Retro Flame started and that is how I plan to go on. The sponsored posts that I do have allowed me to transition to blogging full-time which has not only been a dream come true bit also has allowed me to work on more and more content for you guys.
I want to start a blog, where do I start?
Starting is always the hard part. Don’t put it off and don’t let fear stop you. I know it’s easy to worry about what people will think or say but if you really want to do something, just do it! Otherwise, you will always wonder ‘what if’ and life is far too short for that.
What are your recommendations when visiting New York?
As I’ve been living here in New York for over 2 years, I get asked a lot about my favourite things to do, so I created a big blog post listing all my must see/do ‘s. You can see the full post HERE.
What are your favourite things to do in New York during the lead up to Christmas?
Although I always go home for Christmas, the lead up is my favourite time of year here so I have also written a post about all the things I love to do during the Christmas period in New York. You can read that one HERE.
How did you move to New York and what visa are you on?
I moved to New York on the 1-year graduate visa after I finished university. When this was finished, the company I was working with kindly sponsored me on the H1B visa. This year, I decided it was the right time to go full-time with Retro Flame so I applied for the O1 visa which I now have for the next 3 years. The visa process is a complicated one to say the least but it’s 110% worth all the struggle! Stay tuned for a more comprehensive video about this soon.

Is that your natural hair colour and do you wear extensions?
It’s my natural colour and it’s all my own hair.
How do you curl your hair?
I use a Remington curler that unfortunately, has been discontinued.
What foundation do you use?
I use NARS All Day Luminous in the shades “Mont Blanc” for day and “Figi” for night (when I have tan on).
What product do you use on your eyebrows?
I use the Mac Veluxe Brow Liner in the colour “Redhead”.
What camera do you use?

I work with several different Fashion Photographers here in NYC.
