Time For Change

River Island Dress / River Island Heels

Hi everyone – I hope you are all having a nice week so far. We’ve made it half way and the sun is shining in NYC so no complaints here. This week has been a good one and I think it’s down to the fact that I had a super chilled out weekend. The last few months have been hectic between work and being quite busy with travel & moving. So this weekend gone by was the first time I felt I could relax in a while and it gave me the chance to finally do some thinking. I thought about how fast this year has gone by so far and where I’m at with my goals for 2019. I’m sure this thought has crossed many of our minds too (how is it nearly MAY?!). So today, I want to chat about some changes I plan to make ASAP. Because if like me, you’re a little overwhelmed by how fast the time is flying by – it’s not too late to make the most of 2019. There is so much time left and I plan on using it in the best ways possible.

But just before I tell you how exactly, let’s have a quick chat about my outfit. I have a feeling some of you will LOVE this dress because I certainly do. It’s a new one from River Island and I think if I could get it in every other color for the Summer, I would. It is so comfortable to wear and I just loved how I felt in it. It would be perfect for any Spring/Summer occasions like a wedding, party or Christening. Definitely one of my favorite finds lately.

I also love the square toe/strapping on my shoes I paired with it. White heels are a Summer essential and I can already imagine how much wear I will get out to these ones.

And now back to the changes chat…

On Monday I did my first session with my new PT (Kaelin & I are doing it together). I’ve been meaning to start with a PT for quite some time now so I can’t tell you how good feels good to finally have gotten around to it. It’s definitely easy to put something like this off. It can be pricey and time consuming. However, I’ve learned that in almost every aspect you life there comes a time when you need to invest in yourself. At the end of the day, your health is your wealth. I’m very excited for this new journey and I’ll be sure to keep you updated with our progress over on Instagram (@Retroflame)

Do you ever come to the end of a day or week and ask yourself what did I even achieve today? I do this all the time. So many of us make ourselves very busy but sometimes forget to be productive. That’s why from this week on I’m making my intentions very clear. I’m writing them down each day/week and if they don’t get done I’m going to ask myself, why?! It’s not easy to point the finger at your own weaknesses but I believe it sometimes has to be done and will help you lead a better life in the long run.

This is something I have had so many thoughts about lately. I recently updated my phone and with the update came, ‘Screen Time’. This basically tells you how much time you spend on your phone each day but in a very detailed manner. It even documents how many time you pick up your phone. Seeing my results absolutely shocked me. Especially considering it didn’t include the hours I spend on my laptop daily too. I saw a quote on Instagram the other day  that said ‘I miss my pre internet brain’ and I honestly couldn’t relate more. Definitely time to make some big changes here. Going to be talking about this a lot more on my Youtube Channel (& how I’m going to reduce my screen time) so keep an eye out over there if you want to work to reduce yours too.

…and lastly but probably most importantly, I want to work harder on keeping a positive mind frame no matter what the situation. When you go through stressful or busy periods this can be very hard to do. Trust me, I know! However, it’s when these periods are over that you need to put the work in to readjust your attitude. It’s easy to stay in the same mind frame but making an effort to look at things in a more positive light is so so important. Smile at the world and it’ll smile right back at you, right?! By consciously deciding each morning that it’s going to be a great day (& not to mention, that  you’re very lucky to even be here) – it changes everything.

I really hope you enjoyed this post! I will definitely be touching a lot more of all of the topics I spoke about in upcoming videos over on my YouTube Channel so be sure to keep up to date there.

To finish it off, I will leave you with this quote ‘The two things in life you are in total control of are your attitude & effort.” Always keep this one in mind.

Chat soon,

x Erika

Great read Erica & lots of achievable tips there. I wonder if you’re thinking of doing anything on reducing/minimising waste. You’re so lucky to get many items gifted (I’ve always worked in health service so I’m jealous as I’d be ecstatic if I got a pen!!) but I’m concerned with excessive packaging, buying so many clothes etc. I know you’re great at promoting giving to charity shops & shopping vintage but it’s always good to remind us all about waste & decluttering. Thank you again for your wonderful lifestyle tips. Mary😊

First off, LOVE this dress! Secondly, I’m totally right there with you on holding yourself accountable for meeting (or falling short of) your own expectations…as well as keeping a positive outlook. It’s been a very hectic few weeks in my world with several major projects coming to a front at once…and it definitely hasn’t been easy to keep a positive mindset among it all. But I’ve been working really hard to meditate, do yoga, carve “me time” in and I think it is making a big difference in my mood. A weakness of mine is I definitely get agitated when I’m stressed and I hate that about myself so I’m glad to be *somewhat* staying calm and positive these days.

    xoxo – Kelly
