Another New York Fashion week has come to an end, so I figured I would do a quick recap here on the blog today. This year I definitely took a big step back. I went to a few shows/presentations, but definitely not as much as I usually do. I’m that weird person that can only focus on one big thing at a time and this year, the new apartment application had my full attention and basically took over my life for a week, lol, so I just went with it. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the fun of Fashion Week and all the excitement that it brings, but as the years go by (my first NYFW was 7 years ago when I interned backstage with Whitney Port) I’m learning that it’s OK to do it at your own pace. There can definitely be quite a lot of pressure to be at every show/event but it’s also more than OK to do it your own way too. Even though I didn’t get to a lot of shows this season, it still may have been one of my most memorable seasons because I hosted my very own NYFW event at Designer Revival. It’s a favourite store of mine here in New York and it was genuinely, the most fun night! Plus I also got to wear THE most amazing Balmain dress (pictured above) which I’m still dreaming about. The biggest thank you to everyone who came along. Hoping I get to do more events soon!
In saying all that though, I still made sure to follow all of my very favorite shows online (which is getting easier every year thanks to Instagram haha!) so I wanted to talk a little about my top six designers and share my takeaways from the shows. These are the ones I look forward to seeing every season whether it’s in person or online. Obviously these pieces won’t be available until later this year so I’ve also included some similar items that are online right now.
TIBI
Let’s start with Tibi. You may remember the dress I wore to the Dublin Horse show last year was by Tibi so it’s safe to say I’m a big fan. Nobody does pastels better than them and I just love the detail they put into their pieces. Give me ALL the blazers, please & thank you!
AREA
One of the most fun shows this season had to be Area. This season I loved their use of diamantes & tassels which were a strong feature throughout the entire show. I also loved seeing the comeback of dogtooth – a print I’ll always love.
THE ROW
Another forever favorite for me is the The Row, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen’s brand – just in case you didn’t know. Their neutral tones draw me in every season but also their structured masculine-like pieces. This season, they also mastered the cinched waist which is going to be huge this year. You may remember I chatted about it in this recent post.
RALPH LAUREN
Next up is Ralph Lauren – and where do I start? This collection really wowed me. It also took place in the beautiful Ralph’s cafe which is really close to where I currently live. They turned it into a Parisian brasserie and I loved how intimate the show looked. It was also the perfect setting for the collection. It mainly consisted of whites, blacks & golds which of course I approve of. It was feminine yet strong with dramatic tuxedo line cuts. The embellished gold dresses were definitely major highlights.
ZIMMERMAN
I couldn’t leave one of my favorite Australian designers off this list. Zimmerman pulls at the heartstrings constantly but this season’s collection has been one of my favorites. Mainly because of the color palette. As well as her usual floral pieces, the collection included almost spy like looks with the beret being constant throughout. I really loved her use of texture & deeper tones. I want it all!
SALLY LAPOINTE
..And last but not least, Sally LaPointe. I remember going to her show in my early NYFW days & honestly, this designer just keeps getting better and better each year. This year we saw lots of leather, colour & monochrome looks. The baker boy hat seemed to be a huge part of the collection too. She can do no wrong!
I really hope you enjoyed this little round up from New York Fashion Week & maybe discovered a few new designers . I also hope you got some outfit inspiration. My mind is overflowing with styling ideas after seeing everything – definitely my favorite thing about fashion week.
