Hey everyone and happy Monday, I hope you all had a nice weekend! Today is my first day back in the office after some travels over the past two weeks and I’m so happy to back. You may have seen on my Instagram, @retroflame, I was in St Lucia with my family and then Kaelin & I went to Miami the day we same got back for a work trip. So it’s been a great few weeks but it’s really good to be back in New York. I wanted to start off the week today by doing a little round up of our trip to St. Lucia. Lots of you were sending me questions about the place, resort etc while I was there so I thought it might be helpful to answer some of those in a blog post..
Why St Lucia?
For our last family holiday in 2016, we choose to go to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean which we really loved. So, this year we wanted something similar again. After discussing a few different options we decided on the Caribbean again as we found they have the biggest selection of All Inclusive Resorts which we really wanted. We looked at both Jamaica & Antigua but in the end decided on St Lucia. The Caribbean Islands are also quite close to New York so that influenced our decision too.
How did you get there?
My parents met us in New York and we all flew there with Jet Blue from JFK to Castries which is the capital of St Lucia. It was about a 4 & a half hour flight which we found fine. Our flight did get diverted to Washington on the way back due to weather so we ended up getting a bus back to New York but that’s a story for another time haha! When we arrived in St Lucia the resort arranged for transfers back and fourth which was great as the resort was about an hour & a half from the airport. All in all I found the travel there quite straight forward.
Where did you stay and would you recommend it?
We stayed in the Sandals Grande St Lucian which was honestly a little slice of heaven! It truly felt like paradise and we were so happy we choose it in the end. It is an All Inclusive Resort which means you pay for everything up front when you book it so all food, drink etc is paid for before you arrive. My parents love this style of holiday and I have come to love it now too. It is just extremely convenient and makes the trip feel very relaxed.
How long did you stay and was it enough?
We stayed for 8 nights in total which I personally felt was just right. However, you could definitely do more or less if you would like to.
What was the food like?
The resort had nine restaurants in total including Italian, Indian, French & Japanese so the options were endless for dinner each night. You had two options for breakfast each morning. There was a Buffet restaurant and an A La Carte option which were both lovely. For lunch there was a buffet again, a restaurant on the beach with international options or you could get pizza at the pool. Our favorite restaurant was the Indian by far, so so good!! They also had a restaurant called Josephine’s which served sweet treats (the waffles were amazing).
Were the facilities good?
Yes, they had all the usuals including 4 pools (with a swim up bar), a beautiful beach, a tennis court, a gym which provided classes and a Spa. They also had a billiards room which, if you were following my stories, you will know Kaelin & I spent a lot of time there haha! The resort also offers any guests to use their sister golf course which is a car ride away. Our dad used it and approved. What I loved also was the amount of hammocks, swings and little corners the resort had to relax in. So much attention to detail in the design an it made it feel very zen.
What were the rooms like?
The rooms were great! They had the usual Caribbean design which is never really modern but still lovely. There was spacious and we had a lovely balcony looking out at the beach was so lovely. Our parents stayed on the ground floor and had a patio. They could walk straight on to the beach each morning and they LOVED that!
Would you recommend it for a wedding/honeymoon?
The resort is hugely popular for honeymoons & weddings. If you are looking for a very relaxed honeymoon or wedding I couldn’t recommend it more!
Do you think All Inclusive is worth the money?
Personally we do. However, it definitely depends on the person. If you like to eat & drink a lot on holidays (like us) you will get good value out of it. Otherwise, you may want to think about it.
What was the weather like?
The weather was very hot reaching about 28 degrees most day. However, we did have a few showers but they would pass quite quickly. We found it it slightly windy some days also but overall it was lovely.
Is it safe?
We felt very safe throughout the trip however, I am always quite cautious & aware when I am away so I alway recommend to do the same. Everyone was lovely at the hotel and the staff were so nice and helpful!
