Autumn/ Winter 2017 Coat Guide

Autumn/ Winter 2017 Coat Guide

Autumn/Winter 2017 Coat Guide

It’s that time of the year again – time to invest in that ever so important ‘Autumn/ Winter Coat’. It’s a big purchase usually because let’s face it you end up wearing it to absolute death. Especially in Ireland & here in New York when temperatures drop below zero (not looking forward to that!). They can also be quite the investment so it’s important to be sure about the one you end up buying! I always tend to invest in 2-3. The first one always being a neutral colour/style so that it can be my go-to that goes with everything. Next I like to get one that is little more on trend so for instance if there is a particular colour/style that is popular that season. I’ll always try and find one that includes the trend while still suiting my style. And last but not least a fun one so maybe a colour or print – just something that catches my eye and is more of statement piece. So, today I wanted to share with you a little Autumn/Winter 2017 Coat Guide. Below I have listed 6 different catergories, some that are on trend this year and some that are just the usuals. I’ve talked about why I love each of them and linked my favourite examples that are available online at the moment..

I had to begin with this category because, in my opinion everyone should have a neutral coat in their Autumn/Winter wardrobe. This will be your most worn item because it will go with absolutely everything and always look chic & classy. I love the cut of this camel beauty from H&M – they always get it spot on each year when it comes to coats!

If you’ve followed me for a while now you will know I absolutely love a trench coat. Although it seems to be on trend this year I think it is such a classic piece. If you decide to invest in one you will be able to wear it year after year. Mango got it so right with this one – I NEED!

This is definitely a trend that I am very happy about! Check seems to be everywhere this year. I’ve always lived a check blazer and have quite a few including this most recent one from river island. However, I’ve never seen the perfect check coat until this year that is. This one from ASOS is my favourite that I’ve ever seen!

Another classic must have – a faux fur coat! If any of you remember my green fur coat from Club Monaco last year, you will remember I never took it off because it was the warmest & coziest thing I ever put on. I know I’m going to get so much wear out of it again this year. If you are looking to invest in something similar, this pink one from Mango looks so cosy too!

Vinyl looks to be huge this year. It’s so funny how trends repeat themselves – my mom has a black vinyl coat for years and I always admired it. So, I’m glad to see it’s made a come back! I have my eye on this burgundy version from Topshop, how fab!!

I think this category fits into the ‘fun purchase’ I chatted about earlier. I must say I love a block colour coat. Last year I had a baby blue one and every time I wore it someone admired it, so they definitely catch people’s eye. Seeing as red is the colour of the season, I think this one from River Island would be a great purchase!

As always, I hope you found this post helpful and spotted a coat to invest in. Be sure to follow me along over the next few days on my Instagram (@retroflame) & Snapchat (@retroflame1) as I am heading on another exciting trip Monday!

Have a fantastic weekend,

Great picks! I really want to invest in a big, camel coat this year but I’m also super tempted by all the yellow coats I’m seeing around
