Trends – do you follow them? Do you think they matter? Personally, I do! Whether we realize it or not, each year we are all actually guilty of buying into trends. So, I thought before we all start our Autumn/Winter shopping, I would give you a quick run down on some of trends I think are going to be big this season….and more importantly, the one that I believe are WORTH buying into. Here are 4 big trends to look out for this Autumn…
All THINGS SHINY
Saint Laurent Fall 2017
Calling all the magpies of the world (me included)- this is the trend for you! Sequins & glitter played a huge part on the A/W 2017 runway this year so be ready for lots of shine in every shop this season. I’m already thinking about Christmas! How amazing would this dress be for a New Year’s eve party? I absolutely love the look of this one shoulder top too. Remember, sequins don’t always have to be over the top – choose key, chic pieces & you’ll nail this trend!
RED IS THE NEW BLACK
Oscar de la Renta Fall 2017
Looks like red is about to be the colour of the season! Every designer seems to have dipped into at one stage or another and it looks like complete head-to-toe red looks are going to be huge. It’s a colour that I, personally, don’t usually wear but I do love how striking it looks on other people. So if you haven’t already, get investing in some staple red pieces. This faux fur coat (fur is going to be back in a big way this year as well btw) looks so cosy & warm and this dress would be stunning for an event! So like the two piece I wore to my cousin’s wedding a few weeks ago.
TAILORED SUITS / WORKWEAR
Calvin Klein Fall 2017
Time to get your workwear out on the weekend! This is definitely the trend I am most excited for. Tailored suits were everywhere during fashion week back in February & I absolutely loved seeing the masculine vibe. They’re all over the runway, but there are also some amazing options online. I really love this white cape blazer from Misguided (shoulder pads are set to be popular as well this season) & I also NEED this Mango blazer in my life – SO chic! Oh and I just purchased this River Island Suit (Pants / Blazer) so keep an eye out for that on my Instagram soon.
VELVET IS BACK
Ellie Saab Fall Winter Haute Couture 2017
Ah Velvet – I’m so happy that you’re back! It was huge last year and it looks to be the very same this year. On the runway, we saw a lot of emerald green velvet which I am very happy about as it’s my very favourite colour of velvet to wear so this blazer is next up to be purchased. We also saw lots of velvet accessories which I always think look SO luxurious – these river island shoes are very Blair Waldorf, right?
So anyway, that’s enough trend talk for now. Hope you found it helpful! If you do try to create any outfits around these trends, I would love for you use the hashtag #RetroInspired so I can have a look. Have a great weekend and I will be back with another new post on Monday! :)
p.s. – Have you seen my latest designer bag purchase?? I can’t believe I finally found it…
I’m loving the velvet to be honest! I have a velvet Wednesday Adams style dress that I LOVE so that will definitely be making an appearance soon! :)
Such fab pieces and great advice just in time for AW17. I would love to hear your opinion on what colours you think are best suited for certain skin tones/hair colours. You know your own so well! :)
