Hi everyone, hope all is well! Did you know that today (April 25) is National No Makeup Day?! Don’t worry, I didn’t either! I love the idea of celebrating self-confidence by going makeup-less… but let’s face it, we don’t always feel confident enough to go completely bare-faced, especially when experiencing acne and breakouts!
Well, that’s definitely changed for me recently as I’ve been on a journey to get clear skin. If you’re caught up on my recent skincare posts (Here & Here), you’ll know that I’ve been using & trialling out Differin Gel over the past few months and I wanted to share a full & honest overall review here on the blog today. I’ve suffered from a mild case of adult acne over the past year and I can honestly say I have tried almost everything to fix it. Until I suffered from unpredictable skin myself, I never really understood people’s obsession with skincare….but oh how times have changed. As I’ve gotten older, I only wish I had started looking after my skin sooner.
I have quite freckly skin and growing up, all I ever wanted to do was cover them all up. I hated them!! My skin itself was in such great condition (I somehow avoided teenage acne) but I still wore A LOT of makeup, just to cover everything up. Fast forward a few years, I eventually learned to love my freckles… but then along came the worst breakouts I ever experienced. I just couldn’t win! I now had a new reason to want to cover everything up and still not feel confident enough to embrace my natural skin.
I’ve talked about it before, but the changes in my skin really did affect my confidence big time. It was all I could think about. I was convinced my bad skin was all everyone would notice. It’s crazy how it makes you feel so self-conscious. After about 6 months of feeling sorry for myself and trying everything I could try, I knew just had to get serious about it. So I decided to try a product called, Differin Gel. Differin Gel is different in that it’s the first and only FDA approved, over-the-counter (OTC) product to contain a full prescription-strength acne fighting retinoid – adapalene. After doing A LOT of research into the brand, I knew it would be worth the try.
So I used it for a 3-month period and (I can’t even express how happy what I’m about to say makes me)…. IT WORKED!! My skin still definitely isn’t perfect, but WOW have I seen a difference. It truly was the first product I had tried over the space of a year that actually made a difference. See below a snippet of my progress over 12 weeks…
Of course, as well as using Differin Gel, I cleaned up my diet, upped my water intake, made myself exercise more and also ensured that the rest of my skin routine was also intact. Improving your skin is not something that happens overnight, it really does require work and dedication but take it from me, it is so worth it in the end! For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say I truly feel confident about my skin.
As always, you guys know I only ever share products I’ve a) tried on a consistent basis and b) genuinely love…so you can 110% trust me on this one. If you’re suffering, like I was, definitely give Differin Gel a try and I would absolutely love to hear how you get on so be sure to keep me updated on Snapchat (@retroflame1). Oh and of course, I’m always here to answer any additional questions you have.
Here’s to healthy skin!
