My Morning Routine

Hi everyone, Hope you are all having a great week! Today’s post is all about my morning routine. It’s a post that has been highly recommended so I am very happy to have finally got around to sharing it with you guys. The morning is definitely my favourite part of the day as it’s time of day I’m most productive. I think it is so important to have a little routine in place each morning to ensure you set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Below I go through exactly what I do between waking up and starting work.

7:00 – 7:15am – Wake up, catch up on my phone & make my bed
I love to start work early so I get up each day at around 7am (& a little earlier if I’m going to the gym). Not going to lie, before this I usually start off by hitting snooze on my alarm clock non-stop for about a half an hour, haha! I am THAT person. I am such a deep sleeper so I sometimes don’t even hear my alarm clock for the first 5 minutes (Kaelin kills me as our rooms are right next to each other). As soon as I’m awake, I usually lay in bed then for about 5-10 minutes and catch up on my social media & emails before I actually get up – I think we are all guilty of doing this nowadays. I also ALWAYS make my bed – it’s just something which I think sets a great tone of productivity for the day ahead.

7:15am – Shower/Brush Teeth & Skincare Routine
I then make my way to the bathroom to shower/ brush my teeth and do my morning skincare routine. Before my skin became troublesome last year, a morning skincare routine was something that didn’t even exist in my life…but oh how times have changed! It’s now an integral part of my daily routine. My morning skincare regime consists of all of my usuals and over the past few months, I’ve added in Differin Gel. As you already may know from my previous post ‘My Secret Weapon For Breakouts & Adult Acne‘, I only started using this product a few months ago but I have already seen SUCH an amazing improvement in my skin. Differin Gel is the first and only FDA approved, over-the-counter product to contain a full prescription-strength acne fighting retinoid – adapalene. So it’s basically a product which has the same strength as a prescription and you can buy it over-the-counter. Each morning, I wash my skin and then apply a thin layer of Differin Gel to clean, dry skin (full face), and follow the treatment with a moisturizer & SPF. I am a proud brand ambassador for Differin Gel as it’s a product I truly believe in and I now couldn’t be without it. I’m confident it will help so many other people too! Then as soon as I have all things skincare done, it’s time to choose my outfit.

7:30am – 8:15am – Get dressed, Makeup & go for a quick 10-min walk.
If I’m working from home (which is most days) I usually choose a comfortable, casual outfit. I also pop on some makeup at this time, usually something quite natural. As soon as I’m ready, I try to go for a quick 10-min walk to get some fresh air & clear my head before the day begins. This is only something I have started doing quite recently but it has made a the world of a difference to how I start my day. I feel so much more energized by the time I actually start work and just more positive, overall.

8:15am – 8:30am – Coffee & get organised for the work day ahead!
Next up is my favourite part of the morning…my first coffee of the day!! I usually wait to eat my breakfast until a little later in the morning but I always reach for a coffee first and it’s nearly always an iced americano with a tiny bit of Almond Milk. Here is a post I did showing exactly how I make it. I like to sit at my dining table then with my coffee and make a list of things I need to do that day while also going through new emails before Kaelin starts working with me (different coloured gmail stars are the best invention ever btw!). I usually then start into work properly at 8:30am.

Of course, some days differ if I have meetings outside the office or events & shoots, but this is what a typical day working from home usually looks like for me. It’s nothing too exciting but its how I like to start each day and what I find works best for me. I always like to keep it quite chilled and stress-free as a morning really can make or break a day. It’s all about starting the day on the right note, with the right frame of mind.

    Thanks for sharing! I’m currently designing a wake-up light alarm clock, Lark, so I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my morning routine. I usually hit snooze first thing in the morning. Then I get up and grab some coffee. I then either take a cold shower or meditate.

    I think the most important part of your morning routine is to be consistent. Find what works for you and stick to it.

    How long do you wait after applying Differin before applying your moisturizer and SPF? I always worry about reducing it’s effectiveness, I think my dermatologist said to wait 30 minutes but opinions online seem to vary on this- I just wanted to know what you do, and if you find that it works?

      Hi Dee, I don’t usually have a set time. It depends if I’m rushing or not! But usually I try to wait 10+ mins. xx
