Hi everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great week. Today I am FINALLY sharing with you, My NYC Apartment Living Room Tour!! I think this could be my most requested Blog Post/ YouTube Video to date so I am very excited to share it with you guys! It took me a little longer than expected to get to this stage but I really wanted it to be completely finished and perfect. I have put so much time, thought & effort into this room along with the rest of my little apartment so I am delighted (& slightly relieved haha!) that it’s finally all finished.
When I first found this apartment back in September, it was this room that initially won me over and made me fall in love with it! If any of you have lived or are living in Manhattan, you will know that most apartments here are usually tiny in relation to the price you pay. It is actually next to impossible to find something that is both spacious & reasonably priced, so when I came across this space I knew I was very lucky and couldn’t wait to get decorating and make it my own. The bedrooms & kitchen are on the smaller side but then this airy living room more than makes up for it. If you follow me on Instagram (@Retroflame) you will know I am interiors- obsessed so naturally I immediately had a vision for the room. I wanted something bright and airy, yet also detailed in a way that represented my personality. After hours of scrolling though Pinterest, I decided to go with a theme of white & grey with touches of blush pink and marble & gold accents. Although I am not a huge one for colour usually (especially pink), I loved how blush pink gave a cosy & feminine vibe to a living room and I’m so glad I included it in my colour scheme now.
I actually had the help of a really cool online interior design service called Havenly, when decorating this room. I came across their Instagram one day I was looking for some inspiration and absolutely LOVED the idea behind their service. I worked with my very own interior designer through their site (Libby – she was great!) and visually created the living room of my dreams. Getting all your ideas in one place actually makes everything so much easier and the more pre-planning you do, the better! Havenly basically allows you to upload photos of your empty space, your interior designer looks at it with you and then you he/she presents you with two different design concepts for the space. They also then give you loads of furniture/decor shopping ideas and suggest where to position everything which is so so helpful too. I would highly recommend this service if you are starting off, like me, with a completely blank space. You can find more information HERE. And now without further ado, here are the FINAL pictures & end result of my NYC Living Room….
First up is my absolute favourite corner in the whole room! I remember seeing a picture of a corner very similar to this, with the ‘Why Hello’ Picture and statement chair, on Pinterest a few years ago and straight away I was determined to re-create it in my future home. I am promising myself that I will sit here with a book as often as possible, even if only for 10 minutes at a time.
When I first saw the fire place I must admit I was a bit worried and unsure what to do with it. It was originally a yellow marble colour, as you might have seen in my before video and it was pretty grubby looking to say the least. However, with the help of my Mom and some white & grey paint, we were really able to transform it. I considered lots of different options for decorating it but in the end I thought candles and artificial flowers looked the best and I am really happy with how it turned out! As for the coffee table, which I think could actually be my star purchase out of everything, I went for this marble one from Target. Despite the fact that this was so affordable – I think it looks super expensive especially topped off with a classic book like my Tom Ford one and my favourite Diptyque Candle.
For the longest time I have wanted a Bar Cart in my apartment. I’m not sure where the obsession sprouted from but I just think they look so elegant and really add character to a living room. I also love throwing parties and having the girls over so I knew it would come in handy. When I spotted this Bar Cart online, I knew straight away I had to have it. I love the mirror detail and the gold trim fits in perfect. Styling it was also very fun and something I look forward to changing up throughout the year!
When I first saw the room I immediately envisioned shelves in between the two windows! I knew it would be the first thing anyone saw when they walked into the room so I wanted them to be really eye catching yet minimalistic. Decorating shelves is actually something I really enjoy doing even if I did end up re-doing them about a hundred times, haha! Never the less I love how the they look now and how they represent my personality.
Seeing as our kitchen is a little on the small side I made sure to keep a spot for a dining table in this room. I wanted a place to be able to sit and have our weekly Monday morning brain storming meetings as well as somewhere to eat our meals and this table was just what I imagined and actually ended up looking better than I thought. I’m so glad we were able to fit it in!
…& last but definitely not least – the couch! It was definitely the hardest decision of the whole process as it is the main piece of furniture in a living room and quite the investment so I wanted to make sure I was 100% happy with it! I originally planned on getting a white couch but the practical side of me kicked in and stopped me from doing so and I ended up going for a grey one instead. I wanted something that looked good but was also really comfy. I chose this one from Raymour & Flanigan and I’m so happy with it! It’s the perfect size for the room and fits in great with the rest of the furniture. I can 100% say we are getting very good use of out so far, haha!

I really am so delighted with the finished result! Completely furnishing & decorating an apartment from scratch can be a daunting task and at times I thought I would never get to this stage (I’m SO impatient) but I’m happy I stuck at it and that I was able to bring my vision to life in the end! I really hope this post gave you some ideas and inspiration for your own living room. For WAY more detail, be sure to watch my video tour (below) as I go through the inspiration and my reasons for buying certain items in much more depth. Also be sure to Snapchat me (@retroflame1) with any feedback you have- I would love to hear!
Have a great weekend!
