Hi everyone, happy Friday! A question I get quite a lot in emails and comments is about the staple pieces that every girl needs in their wardrobe so I figured I would do an updated post on it. I, for one, have learned that when you have good basics, choosing an outfit is A LOT easier. Almost think about it like when building a house – once the foundation is taken care off, the rest comes to together a lot quicker/easier. So over the past few years, I’ve really been working on this ‘staple piece’ section of my wardrobe and I think I’ve finally nearly perfected it. I truly believe that once you have one of each of the below pieces, there is opportunity to create ENDLESS outfits. So here are The 5 Staple Pieces You Need In Your Wardrobe (oh and don’t worry, you can build this up over time)…
1. A Tailored Black Blazer
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, EVERYONE should own a good black tailored blazer. I may be biased because I practically live in blazers but I truly think they are one of THE most important staple pieces. They are the perfect item to dress up an outfit whether you are going to a meeting or the airport and when it’s well-fitted, you will look & feel chic however you wear it. Slightly obsessing over this one from H&M.
2. Black Boots
I’m sure you all know by now how much I love my black boots. I have found myself constantly reaching for them no matter what the outfit is over the past few years. They literally go with everything and can be quite the comfy option too. Some may think they are only essential for autumn & winter but I think they are a true necessity in your wardrobe no matter what the season. I have a similar pair to these New Look ones which I never take off.
3. A White Shirt
Another simple must have … a good white shirt! Seems like an obvious one however, it’s one many women forget to invest in or simply don’t invest in the right one. I always say a white shirt will take you to absolutely any occasion. I’m addicted to buying them and definitely have one too many but it’s an item I will forever find easy to style and it never lets me down. Pair something like this gorgeous ruffled one with your black blazer and you are ready to go.
4. Black Jeans/ Leather Leggings
Again, another slightly obvious one but I couldn’t not mention them. Especially living in New York, I feel like all I ever wear are black jeans and leather leggings. There is something very classy and minimalistic about black jeans that I just love. As for leather leggings, going out here is definitely a lot more casual and I think they are the perfect option paired with a cute top. I particularly love the fit of the Jamie jeans and these H&M leggings.
5. A Good Quality/Classic Handbag
Last but definitely not least, a good handbag! I am sure this comes as no surprise to some of you as may have seen this week over on my Youtube Channel, I posted my Designer Handbag Collection. This is the item you may end up getting the most use/time out of so I 100% believe it is worth a bit of an investment. My Givenchy Antigona has been my favourite investment and I also love this cute little Kate Spade for more of an affordable option.
Hope that was helpful guys! Let me know if you have any questions over on my Snapchat (@retroflame1) or Instagram (@retroflame).
Have a great weekend,
