4 Reasons To Stop Putting Off Your Health & Fitness Goals

Hi everyone, Happy Wednesday! You might remember that I started getting properly back into fitness around this time last year and although I really enjoyed it, my Summer travels and recent apartment move really messed up my routine and I just failed to get back into it ever since. However, now that I have fully moved into my new apartment and things have settled down a little bit, it’s time to stop with the excuses and get back into it. I’ve rejoined EQUINOX 74th Street Club and as I mentioned earlier today on my Snapchat (retroflame1), today is my first day back. I’m not going to lie, it was very tempting to put it off until the New Year which is only around the corner (how crazy is that by the way?) but just like every situation in life, why wait if there’s nothing stopping you of starting NOW! Looking back, starting my fitness journey this time last year was the best decision I could have made as it made getting back into it after the Christmas indulgence SO so much easier. So just incase you’ve also been putting off your health and fitness goals and promising that you’ll ‘start in the New Year’, take 5 minutes now instead and read these 4 reasons why you need to STOP putting them off. If I can do it, trust me, you definitely can too and I would love some company facing this fear, haha!

1. CHRISTMAS INDULGENCE

As I mentioned above, Christmas is just around the corner & is a time of year that involves quite a lot of eating (to put it mildly). By starting you’re fitness journey now, you definitely won’t feel half as guilty digging into that box of roses. I’m all about the balance! As well as that, I think the main reason why it’s better to start before Christmas is that you will avoid that awful “New Year, New Me” daunting first trip to the gym in January.  You won’t have a thing to worry about if you’ve already incorporated fitness into your routine. You’ll be a pro by that stage!

2. STRESS RELIEVER

Let’s face it, nowadays, nearly everyone is stressed about something – whether it be career-related or personal issues, we all have worries on our minds. For me, I find exercise such a great way to let go of some of that stress. If your body feels better so does your mind and at the end of the day, it’s up to ourselves to look after both. Nobody is going to do it for us! Since I now work from home full-time, leaving my desk for an hour each day to go to the gym or a class will force me to switch off and take some time for myself. It’s only when you do it that you realise how beneficial it is.

3. SLEEP & ENERGY

Exercise not only instantly gives you more energy but it also helps you sleep better. I can’t really understand why so many of us put it off!? Me included!! Who doesn’t want more energy & better sleep? I think we all need an added pep in our step during the Winter, especially as the mornings get darker and the bed feels A LOT more comfortable than usual, so exercise is even more important this time of year. Also, you might have seen on my Snapchat too that this week I set myself a goal of being in bed by 10:30pm every night. I have such a bad habit of staying up late doing work so I’m trying my best to get to bed earlier and just get up earlier instead. It will be so much better & healthier overall.  I’m hoping that my new exercise routine will help me with this and it might urge me to keep the goal going!

4. RESULTS

And finally, putting it quite simply, the sooner you start, the sooner you are going to see results. Believe it or not, fitness results really do take time (I know I thought it was a myth too, haha!) so if you want to be in your best shape by Summer, you are better off giving yourself a head-start now. I think we all have this idea in our heads that if we exercise and eat well for a week, we should just wake up one morning and look like a Victoria Secret Model, but back here in the real world that unfortunately is not the case. I know I am completely jumping ahead, but when it’s just a few weeks until bikini season next Summer,  you’ll be very smug that you jumped on the bandwagon back in November.

AERIE Workout Gear // Nike Runners

As I mentioned, I’m back in the gym for the first time since forever this evening and although I feel slightly sick thinking about it (dramatic much?) I know I’ll thank myself later. I’m really going to give it my all for the next 6 weeks here in New York before I head home for Christmas and I’ll try to share as much with you along the way as I can. As I mentioned, I’ve rejoined EQUINOX (the most photogenic, snazzy club EVER – so expect lots of snaps) and I’m also working on finalising a program I’ll be trying my best to stick to. I really hope this has motivated you to take the first step too! It’s definitely not the easiest thing in the world to do but it will be so worth it in the end.     Today was my first day back at exercising too – easing into some lovely yoga is the best first step before cardio! It’s amazing how unfit you can get just after a month of no runs (maybe 2 months…). LOVE your workout gear, I do not look that stylish when I’m breaking a sweat!

    Another great tip is to take photos, you won’t notice your own progress unless you do.

    Thank you for this! Some things you know but just don’t want to admit to yourself. I signed up for my first fitness class today in far too long! Plus, gyms are always extra crowded in January, so it’s great to get settled before the New Year’s resolution crowd hits.
