My Dream 2016

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone – a day that will always be one of my favourites of the year! In my last post, I, along with some very inspirational ladies looked back on 2015 and shared our thoughts on what the year taught us. As I mentioned, it was one my favourite posts I’ve ever posted here on Retro Flame and I was so happy to see all your snaps & comments telling me how much it inspired you too. There is so much negativity surrounding us on a daily basis, so my main goal is to always  keep my little space of the internet as positive as possible. So now that we’ve looked back, I’m ready to start looking forward. I’ve always been a big goals person – I really do believe that if you can dream it, you can do it, so today, I’ve sat down and put together a list of everything I’m determined to make happen this year. Initially, I was just going to keep it to myself, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that it would actually be a good post for me to share. a) It will MAKE me work towards everything a little bit harder seeing as I’ve shared it all with you and b) I hope that it can inspire you to do the same. We all start a new year with promises that we’ll do this and we’ll do that, but often, these promises become forgotten. So this year, after you finish reading this post, promise me that you’ll sit down and write down exactly what your DREAM 2016 would look like. It might sound a little crazy, but when you right things down, it forces you to really focus on what you truly want and in turn, makes it all a lot more achievable. Trust me on this one. Some of mine are just tiny things and some are bigger goals I’ve had for years now, but they all matter the exact same.  So below is exactly what my dream 2016 looks like and I’m hoping that this time next year, I’ll be sitting in this exact same spot looking back on this post having ticked each and every thing off the list.

My main goal for the year is to travel more. 2016 is the year I want to see more of America. Last year was a year spent setting myself up in New York, but now my itchy feet are kicking in and I’m determined to see more of the amazing country I’m living in. As well as that, I’m itching to see visit certain continents for the first time, hopefully see a little more of Europe and most importantly explore more of amazing Ireland. My travel wish list may be a bit ambitious, haha, but I’m going to try my very best to tick as many off the list as I can. This is a year for working hard & spending money on experiences. Any single travel opportunity that comes my way this year will be welcomed with open arms. Travel is the only thing you will buy that will make you richer. Below is a look at my 2016 travel wish list:

      • California – LA, San Francisco, San Diego
      • Vegas, Grand Canyon
      • Texas – Austin
      • Chicago
      • Upstate New York – Skiing Trip
      • Niagara Falls
      • Bali (I can’t stop thinking about visiting here)
      • Singapore
      • Santorini
      • Almafi Coast, Italy
      • Stockholm
      • Ireland -Ring of Kerry, Giants Causeway, Aran Islands, Donegal (I’ve never been!)
      • Go to Coachella
      • Go to Paris Fashion Week
      • …and lastly, fly First Class to at least one of these destinations.

Anyone who knows me knows that work really does mean the world to me. One of my favourite things to see is hard work paying off and this is something that will never change. I work pretty much around the clock because I truly do love what I do and I’m determined to make 2016 one of the best yet. For Retro Flame, I’m going to:

      • Do a site site redesign
      • Revamp my branding
      • Introduce new categories

and probably one of my most exciting goals of the year is to launch a Retro Flame Collection. I have SO many ideas for this and I’m crossing my fingers & toes that I’ll be able to count on your support. No dreams are too crazy! There are also a few separate goals (life outside Retro Flame, haha) that I can’t share with you guys just yet or go into too much detail about, but trust me when I say there will be some big changes this year. Life is too short to keep putting things off. My mantra for the year in relation to work will be….it’s important to give it all while you have the chance.

I honestly still find it crazy to think that I actually have a life in New York. It’s something I always dreamed about having and this year, I’m determined to make the most of every single second there. Living in New York comes with it’s ups & downs but at the end of the day, life is what you make it, no matter where in the world you are. This year, whenever the fast-pace starts to get to me, I’m going to remind myself not to take this opportunity for granted. Life is too short to be worrying & instead, it’s about making sure there’s enough fun mixed in too. Luckily, I’ve ticked quite a lot of things off my New York Bucketlist, but here are some of the my main NYC priorities & goals for 2016:

      • Go to a Broadway Show (can’t believe I haven’t done this yet)
      • Try at least one new restaurant every month
      • More picnics in Central Park
      • Go to an Ice Hockey Game
      • Find a dream new apartment in September
      • Join some random evening classes
      • More Summer weekend trips with friends
      • Read at least 1 new book a month
      • Keep my fitness & health journey going
      • Continue to make time for & appreciate all the important people in my life. Life would be nothing without them.

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.”

This is will be a post I’m going to look back at every single week and just to make sure I do, I’ve also included the list HERE (in the menu at the top of my blog) and will be ticking things off as I go. I’ll also be adding more as the year goes on. Feel free to also keep an eye out throughout the year to see how I’m getting on. I’m excited!

As I said, life is what you make it. We have one shot to do it all so why not do it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much for your continued support. Have an absolutely amazing New Year’s and here’s to a year where we all surprise ourselves.

Stylishly Yours,

Erika x

You truly are an inspiration Erica not just to your younger followers who want to follow in your footsteps or follow their own ambitions and dreams. But also to your older followers. I was very much a person who didn’t like change and was content with certain things but through seeing your motivation and getting a glimpse into your life through your pics i really feel that you are right in everything that you say. Whatever you want to do you just need to do it and put all your fears aside. Thankyou. I hope my 2016 is as amazing and eventful as yours surely will be. All the very best.

Great post Erika, really nicely written and definitely gave me the push to make my own 2016 list! Although I’ve already jotted down a couple of things I’d like to get done, it’s nowhere near as vast as yours but this got me thinking that it could, and should, be! So thanks for that, and best of luck with all of your 2016 dreams xx Síomha

  10. […] Happy new year everyone! I’m back in action today with my very first post of 2016. I had such a lovely few weeks at home in Ireland (blog post coming up later this week) but I’m definitely ready to get stuck into a brand new year here in NYC. The homesickness is getting a little easier each time I come back now – thankfully, and so as soon as I got off the plane Sunday afternoon, I just couldn’t wait to get settled back into my apartment and catch up with the girls. New York is now my second home and my friends here are more or less my second family, so it’s always a very exciting place to come back to. I went straight back to work yesterday and although it can be tough to get back into the swing of things, once you get over the first day, it then feels like you never left. It also helps to start planning some trips, haha! Did you see this hilarious drawing I shared on my Facebook page yesterday? It literally couldn’t be more accurate. The girls & I spent the most part of yesterday talking about our travel plans for the year. First up, we’re looking into a weekend skiing trip at the end of January which I’m so excited about! It will be my first time skiing and also the first thing ticked off my Dream 2016 list. […]

I love your blog! The mix of high end items and reasonably priced finds blended into a style that looks classy and elegant. Although I’m not a petite, my daughters are petite working women. I hope you can make it out to California, specifically out to my neck of the land, the San Francisco Bay Area. Shoot me a line when you do – I’ll buy you a meal to thank you!

  13. […] Tell People At the beginning of January, I shared a list of my goals for 2016 with ALL of you and the main reason I did so was to add a little bit of pressure. When you actually […]

  15. Hi Erika! Love your blog and snapchats – such a big inspiration..!

I started my blog 3 years ago and still working up the courage to make it my full-time focus. It’s scary to take the plunge so I keep defaulting to what I know – working in an office.

After reading your blog today it’s given me some inspo to keep going with my blog and put that further effort in that’s required to chase the dream and go full-time!
