September 2015, you have been very good to me! As you know, I’ve spent the whole month of September at home here in Ireland – while waiting for my next US visa to be processed. Initially when I found out that I would be spending September in Ireland, I really didn’t know what to think, but it has honestly been a month to remember! When you live abroad, coming home becomes more special each & every time and you begin to appreciate things you once took for granted. You’ll know from my snapchat (retroflame1) that I absolutely loved having so much space at my home house here in Kerry and I fell in love with our views all over again. Oh and I think I now love Rossbeigh even more now too! I’m so grateful to be able to call it home. While I was home, I also made trips to Dublin, Cork, Galway, Newbridge & squeezed in a (very windy) visit to the stunning Cliffs of Moher in Clare. Ireland, you are a very hard one to beat!
It definitely was a busy month (to say the least) and I’ve had a lot of people asking me do I ever sleep, haha, but I was determined to squeeze in as much as I could. I had a lovely few days in Dublin at the very beginning with my parents. We had the pleasure of staying in The Westbury & I shot a really fun collaboration with Primark. From there I went onto Electric Picnic with my best friend, Christina & that was definitely another few days to remember! I also got to celebrate my birthday at home this year which was such a treat. Nessa & I had a beautiful dinner at The Europe Hotel & I also squeezed in a night out in Killarney with my friends from home.
In the middle of everything, I also really focused on getting a lot of work done while I was home. It tends to get a little crazy in New York and it’s often hard to find time to really focus, so it was great to be back to my little office here at home. My whole family is very entrepreneurial & I think when we’re all together under the one roof, we get a lot achieved. My very patient Mom has helped me with all my Depop additions over the last few weeks (I added more today) & I couldn’t be more grateful. I often get asked if my family/parents are supportive of what I do and honestly, the answer is 110%. I’m very lucky! I also have the best group of friends who I would be unbelievably lost without. This trip home has proved that even more!
Then towards the end of the month, I managed to squeeze in a few more trips. Firstly, I headed off to London Fashion Week which is always a fun trip and I also spent the past weekend visiting The Newbridge Fashion Mueseum, hosting an ITWBN in Galway and speaking at NUIG in Galway. A busy but very inspiring weekend! Blog posts on each to come in the next week or two :)
..and then last but certainly not least, I’m excited to tell you about something which I still can’t believe actually happened! For the past 2-3 weeks, I’ve been taking part in the Young Entrepreneur competition here in Kerry and I’m so unbelievably grateful to say that I was lucky enough to win! I had heard about the competition one day when I was in New York and figured that I may as well bite the bullet and enter. There were 80 applicants initially and then this was shortlisted down to 15 finalists and I was one of them! The 15 of us took part in business bootcamps (one was the day of my birthday, ha!) over the the course of 2 weeks where we developed our business plans and then went onto do a 5-minute pitch in front of a panel of judges. You’ll know from my snapchats (retroflame1) that there were A LOT of late nights preparing for everything but it turned out that they were all worth while in the end. At yesterday’s award ceremony in Tralee, my business idea won it’s category & then out of the 3 category winners, I went on to win the overall ‘Kerry’s Best Young Entrepreneur’ award – which I am still in utter shock about! I think my whole body was shaking for a good hour after they announced it. The whole competition was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve met the most inspiring fellow business-people and have received so much support from mentors and the whole Kerry Enterprise team. Win or lose yesterday, it was an experience of a lifetime and I’m very excited to see what the future holds! Absolutely anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Thank you ALL so much for your lovely messages -I’m honestly blown away by how encouraging & truly amazing you all are. I really hope you enjoyed all the updates this past month & I’m excited to bring you back to New York with me again tomorrow.
Here’s hoping October will be just as good!
