If there’s one thing I’ve learned this past year, it’s that the single most important thing you need to do is look after your body. When you eat healthy, you feel better. Simple, but 100% true. So over the past few months, as my schedule has started to get busier & busier here in New York, I’ve become very conscious about my food choices. You’ll still see me enjoy lots of sweet treats (I could NEVER give them up fully) but I’ve really started to make a big effort to include healthy options & superfoods into each of my meals. It’s honestly all about making small changes very gradually -which eventually turns into a lifestyle that works for you. A more detailed post about the changes I’ve made is on the way in the next few weeks.
But for now, I want to share a new breakfast favourite – The Acai Berry Bowl. Acai (pronounced ah-sai-EE) has been quite the ‘craze’ for a while now and it’s very easy to see why. The acai berry is a tropical fruit from Brazil which is filled with healthy antioxidants and is recognized as a fantastic superfood. Oh and it’s also delicious, which definitely helps! The acai berry (pureed) is the main ingredient of one of these bowls and then popular toppings include:
- Coconut flakes.
The acai berry is known by Brazilians as ‘the beauty berry’ and it’s main benefits include increased energy levels, a boosted immune system and better hair & skin. Right now, I’ve been getting mine from my favourite juice bar, Pulp NYC, but I definitely want to start making some homemade ones too. Seems really straight-forward. Other good foods which I swear by are raw almonds, kale, sweet potato, quiona & almond butter. As I said, a more detailed post is on it’s way.
