“This is New York, Jim, we wear black; and that’s only until something darker comes along”.
-Marsha Bickner, Welcome to NY
On Thursday, I met with the lovely Julia from Wonderfulife Productions. Julia is a photographer based in Galway and we first met when we both worked in New Look about three years ago. She was the one who shot my very first photo shoot I styled for college and I’m so delighted that we have kept in touch throughout the years. She is an amazing photographer, with such beautiful attention to detail! We met for coffee in The Corrib Tea Rooms (such a cute place) and then took some photos in a very autumnal setting outside the courthouse.
Over the past few years, my wardrobe has started to become full of black pieces -jumpers, skirts, shoes, hats…everything! Don’t get me wrong -I still do love my colourful clothing but I think that my wardrobe & style is starting to become a little more ‘grown-up’ and therefore I’m beginning to wear and buy more and more black. I also think it definitely has something to do with my two Summers spent in New York. New Yorkers certainly do love their dark clothes and whether I like it or not, they have had an influence on my style. In one of my posts last week, I spoke about ‘Investment Pieces‘ and in my books, anything black is an investment. There’s just something about the colour that makes everything that little bit more chic and I think I’ll be sticking with the ‘it always looks better in black’ mind frame for just a little bit longer.
Hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend!
