Kerry Fashion Weekend 2012

The fourth annual Kerry Fashion Weekend took place a few weeks back & I was lucky enough to be involved in the planning & organization of the whole weekend. On Thursday April 12th, the Kerry Fashion Weekend Designer Awards Show in association with IMAGE Magazine took place in the Ballygarry hotel in Tralee & it was a night which, undoubtedly, wowed everyone who attended. Prior to the nominees showcasing their designs, well known Irish designers such as Natalie B Coleman, Umit Kutluk & Michael Leong revealed their wonderful current collections.
Natalie B Coleman, very deservedly won, “KFW 2012 Designer of the Year” & I genuinely couldn’t have been happier for her. Exactly a week before, she won the same award at the Goldenegg Fashion Innovation Awards in Galway. It seems she is certainly being noticed throughout the Fashion Industry here in Ireland. Other designers which showcased their collections were: milliner Carol Kennelly, milliner Kathleen McCauliffe, designer Karyn Moriarty, designer Caroline Matthews & designs from the House of Delphine. The showcasing of all these collections proved that the talent here in Ireland at the moment is breath-taking.

The images all turned out amazing & of course, how beautiful do our models look?! I’m still in awe at all the lovely images captured at the event & I also managed to take a few backstage snaps (always my favorite) on my trusty little iPhone. Here are a few….

The night was a huge huge success & of course, a big thanks has to go to the wonderful team behind the scenes & to all the lovely models. Hair was by Tricia from Munster Mobile Tricia & Make up was by Kathryn O Neill, assisted by Kate Noonan.

…..& it didn’t stop there ! Next up was the “Kerry Fashion Weekend Vintage Salon show” in the Plaza Hotel, Killarney. This was the event during the whole weekend that I was most involved in, so I’m really excited to finally be blogging about it. You’ll probably have guessed that vintage is something I love. So by doing this event, I was able to combine my love for all things vintage with my interest in styling & event management -something which proved to be very successful indeed. The event received such an amazing response & I’m already thinking of ideas for a similar one I can organize once I get back from NYC.

We started planning for this show in February & it’s not until you organize events yourself that you realize the amount of time & effort which goes into them. I’d class myself as a slight perfectionist also, so yes that might have had something to do with it too. I genuinely didn’t complain once though, it’s so easy to work hard when you’re doing something you love.

A few months back, I contacted the vintage stores which I felt would be amazing for the show & was so thrilled with the response I got back. We had 5 stores showcasing their devine pieces on the night: Vahey VintageRetro RoseCotton Face VintageEast 73rd & vintage from Mon Amie….& I honestly can say I was taken aback with all the beautiful things they brought to display. Each & every one of the owners were so lovely & easy to work with before and during the event & I can only hope that I will be working with all of them again in the future. Check out some of the fab outfits in the show….

(I am in LOVE with this)

The lovely Noelle from Retro Rose was kind enough to let me borrow some of the wonderful vintage props she has in her store, which I used to decorate the room. As a result, the place looked so beautiful when you walked in & I really think that the true meaning of vintage was captured through the whole event.

How cute is the phone?

I also had the pleasure of choosing Best Dressed Lady on the night….& the very deserving winner was Lorraine Scroope (the lady on the left of the picture). I absolutely adored her dress ! Her & her friend, Alison Nulty, were so so lovely all night & how amazing do both of them look? Lorraine won a beautiful authentic vintage bag. Also on the night, the gorgeous Fiona Horgan wowed me with her beautiful fur cape & won a years’ subscription to IMAGE magazine ! I was so so thrilled that people went to such effort :)

Once again I managed to take a few backstage snaps of my own, both on my iPhone & my “proper” camera this time…

The lovely Maeve

Also, I know I showed you a quick snap before of what I wore on the night, but here it is again for those of you who missed it. I picked up this dress for £8 in Brick Lane in London – I just fell in love with the pastel colours. I got the vintage hat as a present & the shoes are from Primark/Penneys. It was so nice to have a reason to dress in vintage -what I would give to dress like that every day !
My options the night before :)
Big thank you to Pawel for this lovely image -It kinda sums up my night :)

.
..& finally I’ll leave you with a video from the night created by the amazing, Pawel Nowak. I would highly recommend checking out his Facebook Page & Website.
