NYC

Sooo…..guess where I’m going for the summer?? :) :)

On May 25th at 9am….Myself & my blog are outta here & off to NEW YORK CITY for 3 whole months !! (You should see the smile on my face right now). When I was younger, I went there for a 2 weeks, but right now I can only remember bits….but the bits that I do remember are frikin amazing !
I love the summer because it gives you a chance to gain some experience doing the things that you love. Last summer, I went to London & did a short course in the London College of Fashion where I learned an unbelievable amount & met the nicest of people all with the same dreams & aspirations as myself. I also got some experience working at fashion shows, doing a bit of styling here & there & of course, starting up this little blog of mine. At the moment, I’m in my second last year of my business degree which isn’t the most exciting thing I’ll ever do but none the less, it will stand to me. So this summer then is my chance to dive into the fashion world & hopefully gain some invaluable experience in one of the fashion capitals of the world, New York City.
I’m totally aware that it is going to be a lot of hard work, but it’s now or never, hey? I feel that if you work hard when you’re young, good things will come. I’m up for the challenge & honestly, I get butterflies in my stomach when I think of what’s to come. The people I’ll meet, the places I’ll go & the memories I’ll gain. Oh lord, can some just fast forward to the summer already?? So if any of you have any tips, advice, relatives/friends who work in the major fashion companies/magazines (it’s worth a try, eh?)….feel free to let me know :) It’s always great to talk to people who have done this kinda thing before so I’d appreciate all the advice you guys have to share.
Have a great Thursday !
Stylishly yours,
Erika x

  1. Love the post! I spent a couple of summers travelling/working in different parts of america, when I was 19 I stayed in new york for a while, and you’re gonna absolutely love it! The j1 forum is really good for meeting other people who are going to New york if you’re looking to share with other people your own age (makes the rent a whole lot cheaper too!) xx

So jealous you’ll have an amazing time, I did a J1 in Orange County in 2008, it was brill! I actually did two courses last summer at LCF aswell, loved them! My brother used to work for Conde Nast in the finance/advertising department, he works for Natmag now. I have annoyed the hell out of him about it, but its kind of out of his work area. The departments all have different floors and offices!

My brother did a semester in Dublin and then his friends from Ireland came to New York to visit. Granted they only came for two weeks but they came with only half their suitcases filled. They did a ton of shopping and were pretty excited about how much cheapier the clothes were here. This was also a few years back but I’m fairly certain that the exchange rate still works in your favor!
